Cutting Machine Selection for Plastic Recycling: 7 Key Criteria
Plastic recycling covers many materials. Film, raffia, woven sack, fibre-reinforced trim and rigid pieces have different friction and cutting behaviour.
Guillotine cutting can pre-size suitable flexible sheet or strip inputs. Rigid thick pieces may require another technology, so selection starts with a representative sample.
1. Define polymer and form
PP, PE, PET or a composite is only part of the description. Film, woven sheet, fibre and thick pieces require different feeding and force. Mixed streams also need a separation plan.
2. Record temperature and surface
Hot, wet, oily or sticky waste behaves differently on conveyors. Test the sample under representative process conditions.
3. Reduce contamination risk
Wire, screws and hard inclusions can damage knives. Source separation, visual checks and an MDB-700 metal detector conveyor work together.
4–7. Size, capacity, integration and safety
During trials, inspect residue, belt slip, wrapping and stable flow as well as the resulting piece.
- Set size for washing or downstream reduction
- Evaluate volumetric feeding as well as kg/h
- Size conveyor and discharge together
- Plan for static, dust, heat and fire risks
